Pitch Shadowbanned Magazine
We’re looking for writers, artists, photographers, and other creators committed to speaking truth to power. Shadowbanned Magazine publishes work that challenges systems of power and centers anti-establishment, decolonial, and liberation-focused perspectives. We’re interested in work that connects politics and culture to the lived experiences of working people and communities fighting for a more just world.
We welcome:
Articles and essays on social justice, labor and working-class struggles, anti-imperialism, climate justice, disability justice, LGBTQ+ experiences, and the experiences of marginalized communities. Investigations and commentary on U.S. and global politics, historical and contemporary movements, and the future of collective action and resistance. Cultural criticism, profiles, and creative work that examines systems of power and highlights the people reshaping culture and community from the ground up.
Personal essays — 800–2,000 words.
Op-eds — 900–1,500 words.
Reported features — 1,500–2,000 words.
Investigative reports — 1,000–2,000 words.
Interviews with writers, artists, creatives, organizers, and activists.
If you need help contacting an interviewee, we may be able to assist.
Poetry — submit a minimum of two and a maximum of five poems.
Visual art and photography — submit a minimum of three and a maximum of eight images.
We generally publish three to seven images per artist, so please do not submit a single image.
Before You Submit
If possible, read an issue of Shadowbanned Magazine before submitting. Familiarizing yourself with the kind of work we publish will help you determine whether your pitch is a good fit. We are generally not interested in: Cartoons or comics, Personal or nature photography, Rhyming poetry, Horror or fantasy stories, “Letters to self”, Listicles, Screenplays, Academic writing, Conspiracy theories, Shadowbanned Magazine does not publish work that could put other people at risk.
Writing Style
We want our writing to be accessible to people beyond our existing political and cultural circles. Avoid unnecessary jargon and academic language when a clearer, more direct word will do. Terms such as “proletariat” or “hegemonic” may have a place in some contexts, but don’t use specialized language .Our goal is to reach new readers, make complex ideas understandable, and communicate accessibly without sacrificing political substance.

Please source your factual claims. Claims of fact should be backed by reliable sources, with links included in your draft whenever possible. Strong reporting, clear sourcing, and careful fact-checking make the work more credible and accessible to our readers.
A Note About the Editorial Process
Our editorial process can be extensive compared to other publications. Pieces may go through several rounds of editing and multiple drafts before publication. Please note we are only trying to enhance your writing for editorial standards, not change it. Our goal is to work collaboratively with contributors and make every piece as strong, clear, and impactful as it can be. Please do not submit AI-generated writing.
Compensation
800–1,000 words: $75
1,100–1,500 words: $125
Poetry & visual art: $60 flat rate
Investigative pieces: Compensation is determined case-by-case based on scope and depth.
We can go up to 2,500 words if warranted and writers will be compensated at a prorated rate.
Shadowbanned Magazine aims to increase contributor rates as the publication grows.
Payment is sent upon completion of the final draft and is processed on the 1st and 15th of each month. Our preferred payment method is Zelle. We also accept Paypal, Venmo, Cash App.
Response Time
If you don’t hear back from us within a month, unfortunately, it most likely means we are passing on your pitch. The volume of submissions we receive, combined with our limited budget, means we’re unable to respond individually to every pitch.
