Late last night, I awoke to the news that Israel callously, sadistically, and inhumanely resumed airstrikes across all of Gaza, breaking the ceasefire and surprising the Gaza population. After they had just broken bread, after they had been in community finding a moment of normalcy and joy in the worst circumstances. While they were sleeping. With all the damaged infrastructure, an apartment meant for one family now houses ten. The perfect trap for a disgusting, bloodthirsty regime. The depravity and barbarism of it all appalls me; I can’t even wrap my head around it.
I wake up to the news that Trump has defied the courts and is enacting the Alien Enemies Act to target immigrants during a time when we are not even at war, when we haven’t been under any direct threat of attack since maybe the early oughts (if you believe the hype). I watch my fellow Venezuelans being completely dehumanized—heads down, wearing jumpsuits, handcuffed, and forced to shave their heads. The “Hamburger Reich” is absolutely taking notes from Nazi Germany (if that hasn’t been obvious already). The Venezuelans are being deported to our new client state, El Salvador, whose new right-wing president happily and willingly degrades humans in exchange for money from the United States. I completely break down. There is so much cruelty, and it feels all-encompassing. How did this intercontinental right-wing virus come about?
I think too many people don’t zoom out enough to figure out how we got here. They don’t have enough historical context about what really happened during the fallout of WWII besides the very tightly packaged story we get taught in school. The United States came and saved everyone, created NATO, [North Atlantic Treaty Organization], so it would never happen again, and defeated communism! (Woo-hoo!) Well, there is a lot more to this story. I think two critical facts get purposely overlooked when talking about WWII.
First, the absolving of Nazis into NATO. You might have heard that we absorbed some Nazi scientists into our agencies like NASA and the Department of Energy for the important cause of technological advancement, and they were more or less apolitical scientists “just doing their jobs”. However, it wasn’t just scientists. It was generals, some of Hitler’s top dogs like Johann von Kielmansegg, a Wehrmacht officer during WWII who served under the Nazi regime. The Wehrmacht was responsible for numerous war crimes, including branding women as “whores for Hitler’s troops” and carrying out atrocities across occupied territories. Despite this, Kielmansegg was later integrated into West Germany’s military and went on to become NATO’s Commander in Cheif of Allied Forces Central Europe (1966–1968). These Nazis were given high-ranking positions and were essentially taken care of by the Allied forces. The same Allied forces that were supposed to serve as stewards for the moral and liberal Western world order.
What was the reasoning for this alliance? The Nazis and the Allies ultimately shared the same enemy: communism and socialism, ideologies that were highly popular during that time. These movements promoted true bottom-up power. An economic system where workers were prioritized and held real influence. The people already in power, however, had no interest in relinquishing their control. In this way, Hitler’s mission never truly died. NATO essentially became a more digestible version of Hitler’s vision. Instead of focusing on a specific dominant race with distinct phenotypes, it evolved into a Western white world order. One that crushes any opposition from the Global South or any ideology that dares to challenge it, all under the guise of “liberal ideals.” Ultimately, these ideals serve to maintain control over global resources and power.
This agenda was enforced through programs such as Operation Gladio in which NATO waged an aggressive campaign to crush communism through covert operations and violent interventions. Programs like Gladio armed and trained far-right paramilitary groups across Europe, orchestrating assassinations, bombings, and coups to suppress leftist movements.
Moreover, NATO continues to expand its reach despite U.S. Secretary of State James Baker’s famous “not one inch eastward” assurance to Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev on February 9, 1990.

Much like Hitler, NATO too aims to shape the world in its image—by any means necessary. One of the most egregious manifestations of NATO’s expansionist goals was its 1999 bombing spree in Yugoslavia. This was only the beginning of a decades-long campaign of terror against the Global South and Eastern Europe. Like most interventions prior to the Iraq War, the NATO intervention in Serbia was justified under the pretense that Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic was committing genocide and ethnic cleansing against Albanians. The principal value of invoking “ethnic cleansing” was that it conjured imagery of Nazi Germany. NATO framed the situation in Kosovo as the 1990s version of the Holocaust, a very misleading and historically inaccurate comparison.. Milosevic undoubtedly committed human rights violations, but the West attempted to portray him as Hitler. He would become the first in a long line of so-called “Hitlers”designated by NATO: followed by Saddam Hussein, Muammar Gaddafi, Vladimir Putin, and possibly, in the future, Xi Jinping. This is not an attempt to downplay the atrocities these figures committed, but rather to highlight a consistent propaganda pattern that has defined Western war narratives since the fall of the Third Reich.
Furthermore, this points to the West’s highly selective concern for human rights. At the same time NATO targeted Milosevic, its ally Turkey was definitively committing ethnic cleansing against the Kurds (without condemnation). Milosevic’s Croatian counterpart, Franjo Tuđman, authorized the ethnic cleansing of Serbs and, at times, Bosnians. When he ethnically cleansed the Krajina of roughly 200,000 Serbs in 1995, his actions coincided with NATO’s Bosnian campaign. Tuđman presided over a regime that rehabilitated Croatian fascist leaders who had collaborated with Nazi occupiers during World War II. Despite this NATO considered Tudjman an ally in dismantaling the centralised, socialist state apparatus in Yugoslavia and limiting Belgrade’s influence in the Balkans so he was never held accountable for his actions. “Tudjman almost certainly did not care that he was a monster because, unlike Milosevic, he was our monster.” These are the words that the author Misha Glenny uses in his book Balkans: Nationalism, War and the Great Powers to sum up the relationship between the Western powers and Croatian President Franjo Tudjman. We see this hypocrisy clearly today, as Benjamin Netanyahu conducts a genocide against Palestinians with consistent political cover and arms support from NATO countries.
The intervention in Yugoslavia followed a familiar Western playbook used for decades against sovereign nations:Create unrest Radicalize a right wing group against its current leader country or ethnic group perceived as adversarial to Western interestsAttempt to bomb their way to peace Justify military intervention on the grounds of human rights abuses while committing more of themRegime change Install a puppet leader aligned with Western interests through a coup or assassination
NATO has applied this model in countries such as Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, and Ukraine. Although Ukraine does not follow the playbook exactly, many of the same tactics were used to create the conditions for the current war. These efforts all aim to preserve Western dominance, silence revolutionary movements, and reinforce capitalist interests worldwide. Ultimately, they serve to preserve a white world order (something Hitler would likely admire).NATO is not the only entity carrying on Nazi ideology. There is Zionism. Zionism had been a political ideology before WWII. The father of Zionism, Theodor Herzl, had been lobbying for a Jewish ethno-state since the late 19th century. He did so out of a very real fear, understanding the conditions that were emerging in Europe at the time would endanger Jews. However, this Zionist ideology was based on the same type of religious, racist ideology that was endangering his people Herzl essentially decided, instead of fighting an inherently unjust and evil ideology, to carve out space where Jewish people could survive under it—and paradoxically benefit too. The Holocaust and WWII led to the perfect conditions for Herzl to make a strong claim for why Jewish people needed their ethno-state, and he even aligned himself with Nazis and Christian Zionists who shared the same vision of every ethnic group belonging to their respective ethno-state, creating racial purity, and ensuring that Jewish settlement in the Middle East served as a strategic foothold for maintaining Western influence, enabling resource exploitation, and advancing apocalyptic, end-times narratives.Through this unholy alliance, England took its colonial territory and arbitrarily carved out land in Palestine, and the rest is well... the rest is currently being livestreamed onto our phones.
However, the importance of this is that through this alliance a racist fascistic ideology was able to go unchecked for years under the pretense of Jewish safety and Jewish Zionist pretending to value, justice, morality, and equality since they were historically persecuted.Unfortunately, the Zionist project has trampled on these ideals. Just like NATO and Nazi Germany, these fascist institutions are intolerant of opposing ideologies and rely on achieving their aims through force. Although Israel is not a part of NATO, it shares the same goals of maintaining a Western world order. Israel has historically violated international law such as illegally occupying land, conducting ethnic cleansing, committing severe human rights abuses, and now escalating it’s genocide. Ever since the Zionist project began, Zionists have violently removed Palestinians from their native land and created a society upheld by racism and dehumanization to justify its goal of establishing a Jewish ethno-state. NATO never intervened as they did in Serbia or Yugoslavia, because Israel actively assists NATO in expanding the Western world order. This is a world order that sees some people as civilized and the rest as savages, where the so-called enlightened West gets to control and exploit whichever countries it wants. Israel serves Western hegemony by destabilizing its neighboring countries, ones that support Palestinian self-determination and resist Western exploitation. Israel claims to be eliminating hostile enemies. These countries are labeled as dangerous, backward, and deeply antisemitic. Israel is portrayed as “doing the world a favor” by protecting it from these “animals.” This framing is disingenuous. These countries are only trying to protect their own sovereignty and that of their neighbors. This kind of dehumanizing language should sound familiar—it has often been used by fascist regimes to justify the annihilation of outgroups. It has been the West’s de facto foreign policy in the Middle East for decades.
We can see how this agenda has played out in the United States through its endless wars in the Middle East. The attacks on 9/11 created an opportunity for Zionists within the Bush Administration to push a geopolitical strategy that prioritized Israel’s regional interests. This strategy is most notoriously outlined in a document titled “A Clean Break: A New Strategy for Securing the Realm.” The paper was written for then-Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by a group of Zionist: Douglas Feith (Under Secretary of Defense for Policy under George W. Bush), Richard Perle (Assistant Secretary of Defense under Ronald Reagan), David Wurmser (Middle East adviser to Vice President Dick Cheney), and his wife Meyrav Wurmser (co-founder of MEMRI and author of a thesis on Revisionist Zionism). A Clean Break called for abandoning the “comprehensive peace” approach that had guided Israeli policy for decades.
Instead, it advocated for a more aggressive strategy: removing Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq, containing Syria through proxy warfare, and escalating claims about Syria’s alleged weapons of mass destruction. Apparently Netanyahu rejected parts of the memo at the time, its core proposals were embraced by American policymakers and became instrumental to U.S.-Israeli strategic alignment in the years that followed.
This influence was made explicit when, shortly after 9/11, Netanyahu testified before the U.S. Congress urging the invasion of Iraq—claiming with certainty that Saddam possessed weapons of mass destruction. Iraq had no connection to the 9/11 attacks, and intelligence agencies knew there were no WMDs. So what was the real reason? Saddam Hussein was staunchly opposed to the Zionist project, and Israel considered his regime a threat to its existence. At the same time, the U.S. saw an opportunity to gain control of oil resources and enrich its elite. The result: an eight-year military occupation of Iraq that devastated the region.Beyond Iraq and Syria, the Clean Break memo identified five more countries to be “dealt with”: Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Lebanon, and Iran. The broader plan—famously summarized as “taking out seven countries in five years”—has taken longer than anticipated. Still, the long-term goal of reshaping the Middle East to serve Israeli and American strategic interests continues, at the cost of countless innocent lives.
Iraq, Libya, Somalia, and Sudan have been destabilized. Lebanon has been substantially weakened. Assad was recently overthrown in Syria, replaced by a former al-Qaeda member (now a rehabilitated U.S. puppet). This has broken the “Axis of Resistance” between Hezbollah, Iran, Syria, and Hamas. The U.S. recently dropped bunker-buster bombs on Iran, once again at Netanyahu’s urging, based on his long-standing (20+ years) claim that Iran is SOOOooo close to developing nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, Palestinians are being genocided, and settlers are continuing to take over the West Bank.
The Middle East finally appears weak and destabilized enough to become another region under Western domination, just like the rest of the world. Furthermore, like NATO, Israel has played a direct role in supporting or enacting regime change in other countries to advance its interests. For example, Israel’s military relationships with right-wing groups and regimes span Latin America, from Mexico to the southernmost tip of Chile, starting just a few years after the Israeli state came into existence. Since then, the list of countries Israel has supplied, trained, and advised includes Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela. It isn’t only the sales of planes, guns, and weapons systems that characterize the Israeli presence in Latin America. Israel has excelled in advising, training, and running and running intelligence and counter-insurgency operations in the civil conflicts of Argentina, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and now Colombia. Israel has carried out similar operations in Africa since the 1960s. In Congo, Israel helped prop up the brutal dictator Mobutu Sese Seko after the U.S. and Belgium assassinated Patrice Lumumba, the leader who helped Congo achieve independence.
Like the NATO model the goals is always to overthrow the current government and install a leader who will serve Western interests. Israel had a specific interest in Congo because it contains the minerals used in Israeli weapons production. To this day, Israel trains and supplies weapons to militias that enslave Congolese people to extract these minerals for Israeli use. Similar operations have taken place in Nigeria, Rwanda, Angola, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Ghana, Guinea, and South Sudan.
Domestically, in the U.S., Israel similarly seeks to prop up right-wing leaders and movements aligned with its agenda. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) fundraises millions of dollars each year to support candidates who are pro-Israel, meaning support for Israel’s policies, including lobbying for increased military and financial aid and providing political cover for Israel’s actions. During last year’s election cycle, AIPAC proclaimed it would dish out $100 million to its preferred (read: pro-Israel) candidates via the United Democracy Project within AIPAC PAC. That’s a ton of money; for comparison, all outside groups collectively spent $572 million during the entire 2020 campaign season. AIPAC engages in nearly every Congressional face-off. After all, the special interest group gave financial support to influence just under 83% of 2024 reelection contests. 83% of 2024 reelection contests.”
This makes it nearly impossible for candidates committed to progressive values such as economic populism social justice to compete, as they cannot match the overwhelming financial power working against them. In addition, Zionist think tanks, NGOs, and political elites have long recognized, as Herzl himself noted, that antisemites can be “our greatest allies” in driving Jews toward Israel. In practice, they actively elevate reactionary Christian nationalists because these extremists provide crucial political cover for Israel. By granting them platforms on social media, in policy circles, and in public discourse Zionists legitimize their bigotry, allowing them to shift the Overton window toward authoritarianism so long as they defend Israel’s actions and shield it from accountability.
Through these two forces, Hitler’s vision of the world has prevailed. It has led to our world turning more and more right-wing until we are at the nexus point where we might very well soon see genocides being carried out on each side of the world by Israel and the United States. There is already a genocide happening in Gaza, Congo, and Sudan. What happens when the logistics of holding and deporting immigrants are no longer sustainable or viable? What happens to all those people who are stuck in these U.S. concentration camps? Under Nazi Germany, the next logical step was to kill them. They are “criminals” anyway. They have already been stripped, reduced, and dehumanized. I saw a TikTok today with the title “Know what’s cheaper than deporting them?” The woman in the video then proceeds to shoot the dummy. The disease, the sickness, has already infected too many people. I hate to say it, but I fear that is the next logical direction for these fascists. It is overwhelming. There is a right-wing fascistic block on the world stage that is way larger than the Axis powers of WWII. The genie is officially out of the bottle. I know the fight looks overwhelming. However, overall there are still more of us than there are of them. The Global South and those committed to humanity outweigh the bad actors that are currently dominating our politics.
We must not give up and keep fighting back, because the world they are looking to create is a world not worth living in. We must believe in our power and continue to fight against these forces, no matter what.
