Victor Vegas

Victor Vegas is a New York–based designer, creative director, and founder of Primer Rebelde de América, an Indigenous fashion label that uses clothing as a vehicle for historical memory, political education, and cultural resistance. Drawing from his Indigenous Ecuadorian and Colombian heritage, Vegas creates garments that challenge colonial narratives and highlight the histories, struggles, and resilience of Indigenous peoples across the Americas.

Founded in 2019, Primer Rebelde de América takes its name from Hatuey, the Taíno leader often referred to as the first rebel of the Americas. Through screen-printed graphics, reconstructed garments, and ready-to-wear collections, Vegas transforms fashion into a form of storytelling that speaks to identity, sovereignty, and collective liberation. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue and i-D, and has become recognized for its unapologetically Indigenous perspective and fusion of streetwear, art, and activism.

Beyond fashion, Vegas draws on his background in acting, performance, and visual storytelling to create work that bridges cultural preservation with contemporary design, centering Indigenous voices in conversations about fashion, history, and the future.
