Sophie Lewis

Sophie Lewis is a writer, theorist, and independent scholar whose work focuses on feminism, care, kinship, political theory, and queer and trans liberation. Based in Philadelphia, she is the author of Full Surrogacy Now: Feminism Against Family (2019), Abolish the Family: A Manifesto for Care and Liberation (2022), Enemy Feminisms: TERFs, Policewomen, and Girlbosses Against Liberation (2025), and Femmephilia (2026). Her essays have appeared in Harper's, The Nation, The New York Times, Boston Review, n+1, and the London Review of Books. Lewis teaches widely as an independent scholar and is affiliated with the Center for Research in Feminist, Queer, and Transgender Studies at the University of Pennsylvania.
